Hector Besner
Hector Besner, son of Louis Besner and Alma Bourbonnais, was born in Saint-Clet on September 18, 1933. His family moved to Coteau-du-Lac in 1937. After primary studies at the Wilson Academy and studies classics at the Valleyfield Seminary, he studied theology at the Université de Montréal. On August 24, 1958, he was ordained a priest in the diocese of Valleyfield and practiced his priesthood as a priest and parish priest in Beauharnois, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and in the greater Suroît region.
In addition, Hector Besner was a teacher for a few years at Valleyfield College. When he retired in 1991, he returned to live in Coteau-du-Lac. He has written several monographs on the history of Coteau-du-Lac, on the seigniorial past of Soulanges and on the Wilson family. Mr. Besner was president and founding member of the Coteau-du-Lac History Society and the Besner Family Association. Hector Besner passed away on April 25, 2008.
